System.out.println("Hello World!");
My interest in development started in an apartment in London, where I'd spend time each evening reading through the excellent "Head First Java" book and using, of all things, Notepad to build my little apps. Feeling super confident after these bold strides into development (having spent many, many hours trying to find out why my Notepad code wouldn't compile...always as a result of a mistype) I decided to buy another book, that would take me through developing a Game Engine from scratch using Java with my freshly-minted skills. Needless to say, this, was a big mistake. And it didn't end well.
Thankfully I stumbled upon Unity and started doing the tutorial lessons in earnest. I found my time playing around with Java made working with C# quite an easy transition, and most of the concepts were already familiar to me. And thankfully, with Unity I didn't have to re-invent gravity, physics or anything else. For someone who has always dreamed of making games, this was such a relief. Later I would find Udemy and sign-up for a couple of brilliant Unity courses, and low-and-behold, at the end of 2018 I released my first app to the Google Play Store. 6 months later I released my second ("Drops") and I'm currently working on my 3rd.
It's taken me a long time, as someone who really only started learning to code at 30ish, to get to this point using the limited time I've had, but these modest achievements have been incredibly satisfying.
So, why am I here? Why are you here? I'd like to do 2 things with this blog for now:
- Chronicle some of the projects I'm working on, development I'm doing, challenges I'm having etc. I've come to realise that its super important to build a network, however small, if you want anyone other than yourself to be downloading and using your apps, and in my quest to continuously and iteratively improve, I value your feedback (and the time it takes to provide it) immensely.
- Explore, Share & Learn: I feel quite privileged to engage with many Indie Dev's on Twitter and some of your guys have released incredible projects! I would like to use this platform to explore those journeys and share them with everyone else aspiring to learn more about Indie Game Development specifically.
So come on. Join me on this journey and let's see what happens!
Shameless plug! You can check out my one app on the Google Play Store (and any others I release) below:
